Maggie Doyne, a light of hope for the children in Surkhet, Nepal

Maggie DoyneWith only 19 years, and a big desire to help others, Maggie gathered up all the saving from her years of babysitting in her hometown New Jersey, and set up to open an orphanage in Surkhet, Nepal.

After the Nepalese civil war, so many children were left alone to face the world, so Maggie decided to take action, and offer them a better chance of having a quality life :) She is now 27 years old, and has become the mommy and legal guardian of 40 children in this area, and also built a K-8 school that is providing education for other 340 students!

Just this week, Maggie was honored for her efforts by the Dalai Lama as an “Unsung Hero for Compassion.”

Last year Maggie decided to go further, and launched her newest project: a women’s center for the Kopila Valley where her school is located. She started a foundation called Blink Now, that supports the Kopila Valley Children´s Home and school, in order to keep her dream of helping others alive.
